No, it's not pronounced "shin chow" (you don't need to curve you lips at "xin"). It's more likely to be pronounced "seen chow" (lower your voice at "chow" 'cause there's a accent mark on "chào").
You don't need to bow as long as the person is not older than you.
I'm Vietnamese.

Well Im vietnamese and the way I say it is Xin(pronounce like sin)
and chao(like chao in italian) and you don't have to bow when you say Hello only when the person is older than you like elderly you would bow.

lotus
You pronounce it similar to what it is written. It's kind of like this " shin chow " You can bow if you want but it's not necessary.

When people greet someone, they often say "Xin Chào". "Xin Chào" means as "Hello" in english. You can pronounce "Xin Chào" like as "/ ʃin tʃɔ:/". You don't have to bow when you say "xin chào". However, if you want to show your politesse, you can bow as saying to older people than you.

You also say "Hello" in english language when you see someone. Almost of Vietnamese people can understand what this work mean.
