How do I ship from USA to Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon, Vietnam duty or almost duty free? ?

I received a package here in Vietnam with two pairs of jeans and a pair of shoes along with 3,000,000 VND import duty. I am taxed more than the product cost in the first place. It was labeled gift and included a birthday card.
How do I avoid those monstrous fees when shipping/mailing?

You cannot. Been there and done that.

One of my companies is manufactures clothing for export.

Certain items are taxed to the moon, mostly textiles & shoes, because Vietnam manufactures these items and protects the local market. Almost nothing you can do about it. (don't feel bad, import a car and see the taxes they slap on that item!!!)

Best option is to have someone ship to a mailing address in Singapore and take a trip there once in a while to pick up the stuff and hand carry it back in your luggage. As Singapore is a "free port" there are no import taxes involved.

Your other option is to invite the family to visit....with BIG suitcases....

If the items do not look "new" you are less likely to be taxed. Make sure whoever is shipping takes the tags off before sending.

Relocated to the origin of the package and receive future deliveries in person, there by cutting out the government completely from the transaction.
