The top three money making endeavors are:
1. Charging labor for the manufacturing of chains, rings etc.
In Vietnam, you "buy" the gold at market rate (usually 18 carat) and pay a small fee for the labor to make it.
2. Mark-ups on gem stones such as diamonds, rubies, jade.
3. By far the most important income generator is loaning money on jewelery. Much the same as an American pawn shop. Since Viet banks hate to loan money, especially for collateral other than land, it is easier and quicker to visit the local Nha Vang.
