Mike

How do you say this in Vietnamese?

1.) "You look very pretty." Or "You look pretty today."

2.) "I think I have a Crush on you." Or "I think I like you a lot."

3.) "You have a very cute smile." Or "I like your smile."

If you can please break it done phoenetically in an English Alphabet and spelling, that way I can pronounce it. I would appreciate that very much. Thank you for all that is replying.

I don't live in Vietnam but I've spoken Vietnamese before so I'll try my best. BTW, If you really want to know how to say these sentences correctly then you should start looking at websites that teaches the correct tones. Otherwise the girl or whoever should be able to figure out what your saying if you pronounce these properly without the tones. =)

Guy to Girl:
1.) Em dep` gai' hom nay (pronounce the letter g in "gai" as y so "yai" and the rest the way they are)
2.) Toi nghi~ rang` toi yeu em (literally means "I think I love you")
3.) Cuoi` cua~ em la` dep` (pronounce it like this: guoi guu em la dep)

I would like to answer your questions in 2 parts.
The 1st part is for a direct translation of the questions into Vietanmese writing.
The 2nd is to explain the characteristics of Vietnamese language.

1- "You look very pretty." = Em xinh đẹp lắm.
"You look pretty today." = Hôm nay em đẹp quá.

"I think I have a Crush on you." = Anh mến em lắm.
"I think I like you a lot." = Anh rất thích em.

"You have a very cute smile." = Nụ cưá»i em trông rất rất đáng yêu.
"I like your smile." = Anh rất thích nụ cưá»i của em

2- While English is a stress language. Vietnamses is a tonal language that has 6 tones or pitches in speaking. In a stress language, tone can be used to convey an attitude or change a statement into a question, but tone alone does not change the meaning of individual words. In tonal language, when pronouncing a word in different tones or pitches, the meaning of that word can be dramatically changed accordingly.
For example: In Vietnamese, the word CA with the same spelling can have completely different meanings when tones in pronunciation change.
CA = Sing (in middle pitch)
CÃ = Fish or bet. (in high pitch)
CÀ = Egg plant or rub (in low pitch)
CẢ = Big (in compound low pitch)
CÃ = With (in compound high pitch)
CẠ = Rub (in deep pitch)
I would recommend that you print out a copy of the above Vietnamese sentences and ask a native speaker of Vietnamese to read them so you can practice pronounce them correctly in proper tones/ pitches and the meaning can be as correct as intended.
Trying to learn to speak a tonal language through writing only is very risky because the message of an incorrecly pronounced statement in tonal language could cause a regretable misunderstanding.
