How far is it from the UK to Vietnam, and what motorcycle will I need ?

This can be done. Most roads in Vietnam are built for motorcycle so you will have smooth ride there.
It is around 10000 km ride from UK to Vietnam. It may take a few months to years so carry lot of cash and food (cup of noodle is fine). Hunting equipments are the must because at some area you won't see restaurant for many days of travel. (like Russia Siberia, Mongolia, ....). Also learn some universal sign language.
For the motorcycle choice, i would get one with engine that can run with many kind and grade of fuel available (From diesel to animal fat, McDonald waste cooking oil, banana, ....)

You are talking about a logistical nightmare,on paper yes it can be done [look at a map],but in reality no, the countries you would have to travel through where you would need visa's,bribe money at border controls,on your own you would be robbed.Try to watch that program where Ewing Mcgreggor and his mate travel round the world on motorbikes,well you would be doing half that,they had loads and loads of problems,they had a full back up team and millions in the bank.Also im not sure if you could bring a bike into Vietnam without paying a load of tax,
Why don't you fly here,buy a bike for 500 quid,travel the length of Vietnam [1500 km] then sell the bike.You would have a fantastic time.

i dont know much about motor bikes or the logistics involved but i think its a great idea..just get i bike w/ a comfortable seat and follow your nose...

You can't. Please check the world map for more information. You need to fly from Europe to Asia.

Unless your motorcycle can float. Otherwise, it would be difficult and forever to travel from the UK to Vietnam by motorcycle.

Perhaps you should get a Honda Red Wing CBR1000RR with a matching leather jacket. :-)

I like Honda. They make the best motorcycles.

Put the motorcycle in a plane and you can use any motorcycle. Oh boy! that is far.
