it depends on the size and location of the house but I have friends there that have a huge home that is close in that they pay $500 US for. With any luck you can better that by quite alot for a one bedroom.

I would think you could easily get below US$500. If you are willing to share a house that should be even easier! When i was looking for a place the best I found was $550, but I had a spouse to worry about too.
