How much tax do the Vietnamese people pay?

Or how much would a British expat earning £15-20k (in Vietnamese Dong) pay?

Tony J
This is the OFFICIAL (per month) tax table in Vietnamese dong. You can visit the Ministry of Labor (in Viet Nam) and get a copy in the lobby.

1st six months in Vietnam..... 25% from zero up

After six months as follows:
0 - 8,000,000 10%
8,000,001 20,000,000 10%
20,000,001 50,000,000 20%
50,000,001 80,000,000 30%
80,000,001 upwards 40%

Ok, first of all, Expats are taxed differently than local Vietnamese.
The BEST thing you can do is to ensure that you are paid a NET salary by your company. Let THEM deal with the taxes.

Your other choice is to get paid in CASH and hope the tax man doesn't find you (which he probably won't unless you're high profile.

Most expats prefer cash, but I have accountants take care of the finances including taxes for my company, family etc.

NOTE TO "SMILER" - Man, $15 - 20K is peanuts nowadays. I earn that per month and my friends earn a lot more than I do!

If you're not making at least $10,000 per month, find another job.

I find Tony J answer above a little confusing, as far as i know there is at the moment no income tax on salary, it is being proposed and is currently under review. I am a Brit expat who has lived here for 3 years, i have never been asked to pay tax. I am not sure where you intend to earn 15 to 20k in Vn, but you will be getting more money than the Prime Minister.
