Some tips for better exchange rate..
1..make sure you bring new dollar bills..especially $100 bill.
2..you will get better exchange rate at local Jewelry store.
3..Do not...I mean..Do Not..exchange your money at the airport..they will charge fee, and you will get the lowest rates
4..Jewelry store will give you more for your NEW $100 bill than local banks.
5..$2 bill, also give you a better exchange than $1 dollar bill..

SO...BEFORE HEADING TO VIETNAM..GO TO THE BANK AND GET NEW BILL..DON'T FOLD YOUR MONEY...MAKE SURE THEY ARE IN MINT CONDITION ...

you can get 2 sodas, and a bowl of noodles. if you live in the countryside, then you can get 2 bowls of noodles. you can also buy a pair of jeans for $5..hehehe i bought myself 2 pairs of skinny jeans.

*when you buy clothes and stuff, always bargain, and they'll lower the price because they want to sell it and go home early....if you know viet that is..

i went in june-july and i had a blast with all my cousins. it was fun. i think i spent a total of $100. (only because my parents bought my ticket[$1,500] and paid for everything else. the hundred was for my own expense like clothes and breakfast.

Very little. Prices here have skyrocketed. Bad enough for the locals but a helluva lot worse for expats. I estimate that since I've been here (6 years) prices have gone up 50-300 percent. Given those figures it doesn't take a genuis to work out why the return rate to Vietnam is less than 5%. The standard joke amongst expats is one borrowed from the airline industry. If you want to leave Vietnam with a SMALL fortune, come here with a BIG fortune...

Tip for you, the exchange rate is higher for 100$ bill than say a 20$bill, also make sure your bills are in good condition or they wont be accepted, not even at a bank. Talking of banks that is the worst place to change your money, the gold shops are much better. Nice restaurant dinner for two 10 dollars, reasonable hotel room 20 dollars, 1 pack of ciggs 1 dollar, 1 beer 1 dollar, flight saigon to Nha Trang 50 dollars.
