Take the train. Get a A/C sleeping compartment and enjoy the ride. You will see a lot of beautiful scenery. Book your tickets early or you might not get a berth.
I would by my ticket in advance from Nha Trang to SaiGon; so you make sure you can leave when you chose too.
The bus is a very uncomfortable trip and you wont enjoy being on it for that length of time.
Cheers.

Please dont go by bus,i live here and read about the deaths on the road every day.

The safest way by a long shot is to travel by train.
The train takes around 33hrs from Saigon to Hanoi (if all goes to plan!).
Full details of schedules and fares can be found at:

You can check again the timetable here http://www.bumblebeevietnam.com/transports/trains/index2.html
You can find here only the trains standard for tourists. The VR one is too full details to choose the best one.
I suggest you choose the depart in the afternoon. It is better to admire the landscape of the northern region. As for me the northern one is nicer than center and southern one.
So, ETA in Nha trang in the afternoon, it is easy for you upon arrival...

Train is best choice dear,
Hello!
Train!

Take the train. It stops at Nha Trang
BB
You should take a train from Hanoi. Hanoi-Nha Trang (pretty take time 15hrs? but you can enjoy on the way) then stop in Nha Trang. From Nha Trang take a bus to Saigon (4-5hrs) or you can stop in Phan Thiet, Mui ne (2hrs from Nha Trang) by bus. That's way cheap and you can see many things along form Hanoi-Saigon
Shouldn't take bus from Hanoi-Nha trang as a bit unsafe
Enjoy your trip!

Well if you would like to enjoy the view, i suggest you should take a bus. you can book a seat in a bus at many tourist office on Hang Bac (closed to the Guom Lake which is regarded as the central point of the city). From Hanoi around 8 pm, you'll leave for Hue and you will be there around 6.30am the next morning. they bus will stop in hue for like 10 minutes then it will continuously leave for Hoi An (my favorite place here in Vietnam, You'll love it more if you are female cos they have good tailor here) the bus arrives Hoi an at 2,30pm.
