I'm going to Ho chi minh, Vietnam next week. How do you say "No ice " in Vietnamese when ordering a drink?

And, how about " Does this include tip ? " I heard they try to rip me off. Thank you !

"khong can da" pronounced "come cun da". it litteraly means "no ice needed". you can say it in english, most places will speak some english. tips are only included in large resturants, and it is not customary to tip in small places. although 2-15 vn is nice to recieve if your a waiter. and no one is going to "rip you off" in a resturant... you dont even have to count your change.

Good advice from ong jon, certainly on the tips,i see many backpackers arguing over tips and prices, yet back in the UK or the USA,if they saw 3000 dong[10p or 20 cents] lieing in the street, they would not risk there back picking it up.
I have lived here 2 years now and i have never been ripped of in a restaurant,in that 2 years i have never met a motorbike driver who has not tried to rip me of.
As for ice,if you dont like it OK,but you wont have a problem with ice on health reasons, one of the legacies of the French was to teach the Vietnamese how to prepare germ free ice,

You can use english in Viet Nam, especially in big cities like Ho Chi Minh, Ha Noi, Da Nang, etc.
You should bring a E-vietnamese dictionary with you.
If you need more help in Viet Nam, feel free to contact me at ngoc52@yahoo.com, always be glad to help you :D

I always have ice with my drinks and, so far, have never been sick. We go every summer and spend a month there. Maybe the cold kills the germs.
About the tips, we have never had anyone other than at tourist attractions ask for one. If you don't want to tip you don't have too. Just walk off.
Have a good time, cheers C.
