Angela M

I am thinking of visiting Vietnam?

My sister and brother in law are living there for a few months.
Everyone who goes there seems to love it. Can I have some opinions before I make up my mind. Or I could just go to Australia, again. Just need to do something a little different.
Thanks

You will never regret it if you come to Vietnam. The countryside varies in terrain from beautiful Beach's to green mountain passes. Hot as can be and cool mountain breezes. Great food. amazingly wonderful people. We stopped our bikes at the end of the road by the river the other day. Out in the middle of no where. In minutes we were surrounded by kids saying "hello, Where you from?" the mothers came out a few minutes later and they are bringing out food and laughing. A few minutes later the men came out bringing the rice wine. We had a full on party going and didn't understand much of what was going on. But... we knew that they were really friendly and they treated us like Rock Stars. Just amazing. Don't miss Vietnam. It will be your best trip ever. I promise.

If you never went to Vietnam before, or if your relative seem to like that place, or just simple that you want to do something different this year, yeah, visiting a new country maybe have a lot of whole new experiences. Have a nice trip !

Definately go, with family living there you will have the best of both worlds. Great scenery and trusted advisors.
Besides, if you start to miss the Aussie's, go to Tommy's Bar on the south beach of Vung Tau, the place is crawling with them lol.
If you go, tell Belly, the manager, that I said hi !

Wherever you decide,,,
Bon Voyage !

I think you should explore Vietnam rather than just go to Australia. Since your sister and brother in law are living there, it's an opportunity for you to go and stay with them. At least that way you don't have to pay for the hotel :-)

There are so many fascinating places in Vietnam that haven't explored. See something new and different for a change.

I don't know if you're Vietnamese or not. Whether it's a communist country, it's always my country. I would go to Vietnam for sure. Matter of fact my twin brothers will go there this year. So what if we all tried to escape out of Vietnam back in the late 70' because of the communist. It's still our country and I'm still Vietnamese.

Vietnam is very hot and humid in the summer which is now.
It is also the wet season.
Great place but only come during the winter otherwise you will be cooked alive.

If you come now and cant stand the heat head for Dalat which has a great climate even in the summer. It is about 1400 metres asl

You go Girl !
Vietnam is pretty ...pretty...country and very friendly people.
just a bit busy on the road and far from quite with all those small motorcycle with their horn - every single few second to tell other motorcycle drivers that they will passing them or whatever reasons.

But the rest Vietnam is a great :)

Vietnam is a great place to visit, u can go to Ho Chi Minh city, i think there are many amazing things there .

I hesitated going to Vietnam for a very long time consider what that communists and Ho Chi Minh himself had done to my family there. Now, I kick myself in the butt after my first recent visit in 2005. I stayed there for almost three months on my last trip, I got married I'm becoming very anxious to go back as soon as I can.

The Viet Kieu (foreign living Vietnamese) who left because of the Vietnam War and haven't been back since then will have very strong negative opinions that could sway anyone from ever going there. They have every right to their opinions, but their opinions also blind them. Vietnam has changed dramatically since then, and words cannot accurately describe how incredibly fascinating and beautiful the country has now become.

The best thing about Vietnam are the people. I have never met more friendlier people in all of the traveling that I have done. The food is incredible and very cheap. What I consider delicacies in California are in abundance in Vietnam. I can pig out on pho bo and bia hoi (draft beer) for less than $5 US. Vietnam is a shopper's paradise because everything is so cheap.

Comparing Australia to Vietnam is like comparing a chicken to a goat, because there are too many differences to make a fair comparison. There is one distinct difference, which is the price. The plane ticket to Vietnam will be the most expensive thing for your whole trip, and you can live high on a hog there for a month on less than $1,000 US. You could barely survive a week as a tourist in Australia on $1,000 US.

In my opinion, I think you should try something new and go to Vietnam. You will have an incredible time and save a lot of money over going to Australia again.

If i were you i would go to VIETNAM than other southeast asia country like THAILAND,INDONESIA,MALAYSIA,PHILIPPINES etc etc because VIETNAM is a communist country but they open more freedom now,i am a bit concern with what is going on in THAILAND and INDONESIA AND MALAYSIA AND PHILIPPINES(south PHILIPPINES) always got problem with terrorist thought,

Depends on your experiance and background and where you are from. Not quite a third world place, more second (communist and fairly developed) world. If you think of Australian standard well drop it way down in terms of hygene, ease of travel, trust in services and put it way up in cheapness and life experiances. Vietnam is hard work to travel in due to commercial pressures (touts, scams, rip offs, begging) but rewarding. I'd thoroughly recommend a tour, organised from outside of Vietnam! I went with Intrepid from Australia and that was so much easier than doing it independantly but still an adventure.

LMAO, Chao den Viet Nam - but I will warn you that the government has corrupted the nation terribly. Anyone who voices out in defiance is trialed. What kind of freedom is that?. And what on Earth happened to Sai Gon ? How dare they rename the city. Opening up what? - they are selling land to foreigners and selling girls to foreigners. Viet Nam would be better without the communists.

But after saying all that, make sure you watch yourself. Ignore the beggars, - this was caused by the communists and ignoring them is the best option.

BTW, I'm a Vietnamese living in Australia. You can come down under...Viet Nam is infested with mosquitoes and communists. Besides this, all is ok. Shopping is cheap, girls are cheap *coughs* and everyone seems happy and hospitable, or are they just being that way for money? - Let you decide. So long as that party rules, my soul is entrenched in a battlefield for freedom in Viet Nam. Hope Viet nam gets liberated soon.
