If you bring a photo (3x4 cm or 4x6 cm, I forgot) you could save a VND 100.000 (8 US$). |

IT IS ADVISABLE TO GET YOUR VISA BEFORE TRAVEL, SOME AIRLINES WILL NOT LET YOU BOARD UNLESS YOU HAVE A VISA AND RETURN FLIGHTS INTO VIETNAM. THERE ARE INSTANCES WHERE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN REFUSED ENTRY WITHOUT A VISA. I ALSO HAVE SPOKEN TO PEOPLE WHO GOT A VISA FROM HANOI AND HCM CITY, BUT IT WAS A HASTLE. I ALWAYS GET MY VISAS SORTED OUT BEFORE TRAVEL, IF IM NOT SURE, AND THIS APPLYS TO ALL COUNTRIES I TRAVEL TO

I don't know the answer, but the best place to find out is on the Lonely Planet site. If it's not on the main site, then ask on the Thorn Tree (the forum on the site).
I crossed the border overland and needed a visa in advance - unlike most visas, it started from the date on the visa, not the date I crossed the border, so as I was a bit late in leaving I only had 3 weeks there, so do bear that in mind. |

Yes you can get a visa on arrival at either Saigon or Hanoi airport, but be prepared for a long wait to get the visa as they are not the fastest in processing your request, also take a couple of passport size photo's with you as they will be required when submitting your visa request, this process can save you a few dollars, but if you want to come here without the hassle of queuing, it will be easier to get your visa from the nearest Vietnamese embassy |
