ok i can tell you that answer, i went back there this summer after 10 years. for me not alot have change in 10 years but i seen some beautiful sight when i was over there for 3 weeks. i went to see alot of things by flying to different places and take buses after all of that flying and riding buses i dont even know if i ever take a bus or flying again.
Let see... you can go to Ha Long Bay, is really beautiful, and calm. at the Bay you can take a boat/ sail to a small island and inside it you will find volcano Laval mold into sculpture and display with beautiful lighting, the trip to the play will get you explore HaLong Bay in about 4-5 hrs.
Another place is HaNoi the capital of vietnam, it maybe dirty then we expected living from the US but is it a really nice place, but it currently kinda cold over there up in the north, is about 54-70 degree F over there right now. there you can visit Ho Chi Minh Tomb and Turtle pond.
Saigon have some nice place too and if you really wants to relax you should go to Nha Trang it is really place.
And you ask what should you bring over there?? well.... ill tell you this you might just have one suitcase full of it bc i did.... it is CANDY alot of it, some of the famous candy in the US but if you bring Chocolate your relatives will love you to pieces. In vietnam everyone say that in america we have the best chocolate and candy, and it is cheaper than over there. and you also ask you dont know what to bring for them, you can call and ask tell them is a $25 max for 1 family they will tell you to bring alot of things, but just bring like 5 out of 15 things that they ask you to bring. and oh reminder.... dont take buses number 1. you will lose all of your money. 2. have no place to sit eventhough you pay for that seat.3. it is extremely dirty. take motor bike or taxi that it or to get from Saigon to HaNoi take the airplane. bring a mask like to cover your face bc it is very dirty the environment is polutted with alot of stuff...if you are a girl dont bring any makeup bc it will be 2 hot to wear it, just bring stuff for your body, sunscreen, and stuff for your face. other than that Have a Great Trip

I am leaving in a few days to visit my family. I'm bringing rechargeable batteries/chargers, last years cell phone, a couple of bottles of bourbon, some hand tools, lots of toys and sports items (balls, bats, Frisbees), t-shirts with American writing/logos, a jogging stroller, an electric keyboard, lots of jello and many, many pounds of chocolate. Everything will be given away as gifts. I am also bringing a change of clothes so that I can shower in Hong Kong and a bunch of books I want to review for an application to Graduate School.
There are too many nice places to list, I will be spending my time with my family in the Mekong delta.

Delta Mekong is also nice place to visit. You can visit the float market in "Can tho". About the gift, money is easy for you to carry. If you don't have a lot of money. Chocolate, candy, Tylenol, Vitamins etc.... Old people like pain medicine for their joints and Vitamins.

well, surprsingly,i am working on a presentation with that topic. I would recommend you to go to Ha Long Bay or Nha Trang. If you have visited them, you can go to the South West Vietnam. It is the best place to live in VN too. You could bring wine and electronic supplies for men. About women, some things such as shampoo would be good.

Actually it depends on what u'd like to do.

For example, you just want a sight-seeing, you can go to tourist agency and ask, they will have for you.

Or if you wanna an adventure trip, be make sure that u visit
HongBang Tourist Company in HoChiMinh City coz they have very nice trips.

But if you want to do sth specially in Vietnam, I suggest u visiting MinhLong I Company in BinhDuong, because u can make a chinese there or painting on dishes, vases, etc. there.

i dont know when u first visited Vietnam but it has changed so much in recent yrs. there are some famous places that I think u can visit like Ha Long bay (1 of new world wonders ^^), Hoi An Ancient Town (UNESCO World Heritage), Da Nang (many beautiful beaches), Nha Trang VinPearl...
Or if u dont hve much $, u can go to the countryside, visit some provinces in the West...
Even in HCM city or the capital Hanoi, there r also nice places for u 2 visit.
In general, it's up 2 u, what kind of ur taste ^^.
