Because of the geograghic shape of these two countries and there being only 2 border crossings, what is the best strategic route to cover the major highlights without doing a lot of back tracking assuming my fly in destinations can be Vientiane,Luang Probang,Saigon or Hanoi
Since Laos is closer to the North, perhaps Vientiane and Hanoi would be a shorter distance than Vientiane and Saigon. Besides from Hanoi, you can go to Ha Long which is one of the treasures of Vietnam.
