Hanoi compared to Vietnam is like Sacramento, California compared to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Hanoi shuts down pretty much everywhere in the city by midnight. It is a surreal experience to see how fast Hanoi transforms from a big city to a ghost town in the few minutes before midnight. I'm sure there are some loose women in Hanoi, but you better find what you're looking for before your carriage turns back into a pumpkin (a little analogy from Cinderella).
On the other hand, there are parts of Saigon that has probably stayed open for over 10 years. Although I haven't found one myself, I'm sure there is a red light district somewhere in Saigon. It wasn't always this way though.
Hanoi used to be the place for easy women in Vietnam, and there was a red light district in Hanoi. Someone else already mentioned this but named the wrong street. Trang Tien Street was Hanoi's red light district during the French colonial period.
Trang Tien Street is not very long. It starts at the South side of Hoan Kiem Lake, passes near the French opera house and ends near the Vietcombank building barely a kilometer away. Yet, it's probably the most famous and historic street in all of Vietnam. My Uncle told me Trang Tien Street was the place to go to party and find prostitutes. Trang Tieng Street is now the "Book Street" of Hoan Kiem District and the location for Hanoi's International building, where numerous foreign businesses have their headquarters. It's now a far cry from being a place to find prostitutes. |

No, not at all. .
You can find sleaze, but there are no such districts. |

No, it's not sleazy.
In Vietnam, there's no term of red light district (i mean in public) like Thailand, Cambodia... |

No, but maybe if you are referring to Cambodia or Thailand then yes it is. I mean my mom visited and lived through Saigon, while her friend experienced Hanoi, and it's not really "sleazy" as the way you look at it. Cambodia, you can look at it, you can see several rural cities or towns that falls into the listing. |

No. I was only 17 when I went so what I got to see was limited, but I saw no glimpses of that stuff while in Hanoi at all. When I was in Ho Chi Minh it was visible even if you were not looking for it. |
