Interesting why many people are spelling "Hanoi" and not "Ha Noi", "Ho Chi Minh" and not "Hochiminh" :-).
Anyway the capital of Vietnam is Ha Noi, a city in North Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City, aka Saigon, used to be the capital of the Southern Country, before the war ended in 1975.
The name "Ha Noi" means "within rivers", as the city itself is surrounded by many rivers.
