Is Vung Tau still as beautiful a place as I remember?

Has anyone here been to Vung Tau recently? I was there in 1970 & 71 and it was a beautiful town with a huge Buddhist statue watching over the whole area. There was a tree lined boulevard in the center of town and a hotel that the French had built with a restaurant on the roof. It was an elegant place. I remember the main industry was fishing and during the war it was a neutral territory. I sat at a bar next to a viet cong soldier waiting to meet with his family. That was a bizarre feeling. At the time, the Austrailan MP's were the authority's that kept peace there. I remember thinking how beautiful Vung Tau was and if there had never been a war they would be filthy rich from tourism. In fact, the whole country could be a tourist destination for all it had to offer. If you have been there recently, is it still beautiful?
Additional Details
I once slept on the beach because the sunrise there felt like a slice of Heaven.

Yes, it is still beautiful. The Buddhist statue is still watching over the city. Things changed though....new building.........housing....more crowded now than before....like other said, fishing is no longer the primary industry.
If you have the oppertunity...try one of those Vietnam Tour....you get to visit lot of diff. places...Vung Tau would be 1 stop for you to visit

I was there 4 years ago and yes, it's still beautiful. The population there is not big like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh city so that it's easy to get around by car or by bicycle. Fresh air, nice view of the city but the beach is not really famous like Nha Trang or some other beaches around that area.

Btw, the main industry is not fishing, the richest people here are working in oil industry. One of my cousin who's living there bought a new car just after 1 working year.

The beach is not as clean as in Nha Trang, Da Nang or Phan Thiet beach though..But I always go there during my vacation time..
