Yes it is very safe. Vietnam has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Violence is very very rare. so no worries about being safe in vietnam. I am Caucasian and live in Central Vietnam on the coast at a small town called Hoi An.
You should use normal caution with taking care of your personal items and money. Don't leave valuables in Hotel rooms and always check you cash and goodies with the hotel desk. But this is just standard operating procedure in Asia.

Vietnam a very safe place to travel, I been there several times and enjoy it everytime.

Crime rate is very low, death are mostly caused by road accidents so be extra careful when you cross the road ( cross the road where there lots of people are crossing)

Be careful with your money and personal belongings, count your change to make sure you get correct change.

If you go by taxi make you you select taxi by Vinasun company all other no name taxi will rip you off. Also if you go by xe om (scooter ride) make sure you ask the cost to your destination....

Other than that...its a great place for a holiday.
Enjoy your trip :)

Yes it is safe to travel to Vietnam. My mother and I went there in April this year and visited Ho Chi Minh City (formerly known as Saigon) and the Cu Chi Tunnels, where the Viet Cong hid from the US forces during the Vietnam War.

There's no "difference in safety for males and females." But just to be sure, travel with somebody else, especially at night (if you would like to experience the night life there).

Vietnam is a safe country to visit, that's for sure. The Vietnamese people love tourists.

its safe... i went to ho chin minh with my parents in july this year. you'll be surprised how advance they are as compared to our old thinking that vietnam is a very rural country. they have big shopping centres and gid brands like gucci, LV etc.

Yes, it's very safe to travel in Vietnam. There's no terrorism, no racism, no conflict, no war... now. It's not allowed to use weapon for any purpose, except special purpose with the permission of the government. Even you are girl or boy, man or women, young or old, it doesn't matter to go out in the evening for sightseeing, drinking.... In brief, Vietnam is considered one of the highest security to travel.
