Actually, Vietnam is in an area of fairly high risk for earthquakes, and two quakes with a magnitude 6.7 or higher were recorded Vietnam in the 20th century, with many minor quakes as well. Here's a good article regarding earthquake risk assessment in Vietnam: http://www.ntu.edu.sg/wssi/Proceeding%20Report/Country%20Report/Vietnam.pdf

I have lived here {nha trang} for 2 years, its a very safe country,i have never heard of any earthquakes. The only dangerous thing is the roads, try to avoid long distance bus travel, trains are safe.Saying that a bus drove into a moving train 2 weeks ago and 16 people died. Sory to be a doommonger Vietnam is lovely, its just i see alot of young backpackers risking there lives to save a few dollars by traveling by bus.
