Is there more to see in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City?
Hanoi is a city of lakes and the largest Hoan Kiem can captivate you for a day , especially if you go into the temple right beside it, eat at the many restaurants and people watch. You can see the other lakes especially from the tops of the many great hotels.
There is the Temple of Literature that traces back centuries. There is the famous "Hanoi Hilton" prison where US flyers were kept but it also was a prison where the French imprisoned and tortured Vietnamese.
There is the Ho Chi Minh Tomb with a park like setting.
There are wide boulevards with "mansions" dating to the French era that make for a great walk and well as "Silk Street" where you can shop for hours in a fascinating tour.
Just walking these streets can captivate your mind for hours.
People like foreigners and many speak English, certainly all the shop girls and waiters / waitresses do.
I lived in Hanoi for two years and think it is one of the most beautiful cities I have been to. It has character with a capital "C". There are many cities that could be any other country in the in the world - like Saigon - but Hanoi stands by itself.

Hanoi,by a long way,in fact there is very little to see in HCMC,other than a war museam and 10 million motorbikes.
