Believe it or not, consumer electronics (cell phones, cameras, computers, etc.) are not much cheaper in Vietnam than in the U.S. In fact, some electronics are actually a little more expensive and poor in quality compared to what is sold in the U.S. I know this because my brother-in-law and I have a lucrative side business selling used laptops and other electronics from the U.S. to the Vietnamese in Vietnam.
Most all cell phone services in Vietnam are GSM compatible, which means any unlocked GSM compatible phone will probably work with any Vietnam cell phone service by changing the SIM chip. My uncle has used his beat up Nokia for years in California and Vietnam. Personally, I have a different phone for when I’m in Vietnam, because I use wireless Internet service while there. The phone has an adapter for connecting to my laptop.
You will find great deals on phones in Vietnam as you would anywhere. If you want to save a few bucks, then take a GSM compatible phone with you to Vietnam. Even if it has to be unlocked, it will probably be cheaper than buying a new phone. Make sure you don’t mind parting with the phone, because someone will likely offer you a few Dong for it before you leave for home.
Have a great trip! |

It is better for you to buy a Unlocked phone here. Make sure it is a GSM phone.
Nokia and Samsung are the most popular phone in Vietnam, but most are made in China and more expensive...
To buy a Sim card in Vietnam..there are billion places you can buy them..hiiiiiiiii....Viettel and Mobi are the 2 most popular names.
Have fun in Vietnam this August, make sure you bring umbrella or a rain coat..It is wet season in Vietnam

Hmm...I just bought a new Nokia 5610 for less than $300 and still keel my Motorola L7 (sliver) for a back up.
My friend bought an I-phone for $400 (previous model) and if you want to go whole hog, you can buy a Vertu with diamonds for $10,000.
We have all the phones here and the best part is you're not locked into a service.
The 2nd hand phone market is HUGE because everyone upgrades the moment something new comes out (which is like every week it seems).
Buy here...its easier! |

It's a little bit cheaper, but not by much. One bad thing is you can't get insurance and there are no warranty. Good luck on finding a phone.
(Broke my phone when I went to Vietnam last month...went swimming with my phone still in my pocket...) |

In Vietnam there are many kinds of mobile phone. And they are cheaper than any places, but still quality. |
