its the autum festivel usually late sept. groups of young men[ often affiliated w/ church communities] dress up as dragons, "monkey man" and "mr earth" [ something like that].. one guy will beat a drum the dragon will spit fire and they all will go around from house to house shop to shop collecting small envelopes of money people hang from their buildings...[ the money is sometimes donated to the church]. large groups of people will follow ..its realy a lot of fun the first 3-4 times ..then gets a bit tedious.. you can hear the groups practicing all week as they prepair their act. also children will recieve small amounts of money for themselves from family members [ "le si"..not spelled correctly.].. yes larger cities will have concerts in the town squares..the vietnamese will come in trongs but never seem to get as excited as the tourists... no "toe tapping"???? |
