Questions for tourist in Vietnam?

I want to go this summer with my 7 yr old. We've never been but we have family there. They dont speak english and I dont speak viet so I dont know how thats going to work. We are going to Saigon. Are there things for my little one to do? Any suggestions on what to bring to make our stay more comfortable? I have some family in the country still and will visit them too. They dont have running water/electricity, etc. Places to avoid? Crime? I imagine its going to be a culture shock for the both of us. I want to go to an orphanage also.

I am planning for a visit to VN in June 15 for 3 weeks with my daughter, 9 years old, and my sister's family. We want to make sure our kids (13, 20, 22 years old) will enjoy the trips. Can you recommend places to see and hang out, nice beaches, and fun activities? Thanks.

1.) where should i stay??...a nice hotel but not that expensive..and how much probably??is it a day or a night basis?

2.) how long did you stay there and how much should i bring for a pocket money??

3.) did you hire an tour guide or you went there for a package tour...like to ask how much did you paid??

I've been to Vietnam 7 times (once for a year). I really enjoy traveling there (obviously). I now have friends to visit. I shop for the best airfare to get to Vietnam, then it's cheaper to live there than it is at home.
