True.If you are a foreighner and you wish to share a room with your vietnamese girlfreind it is against the law.this has actually happend to me at 3 different hotels in HCMC.On 2 occasions i paid for an extra room,on the last occasion i told them to **** off and went to walk out, they changed there mind.

Yes, it is true. It also depends on how the guest service at the hotel think about the situation. If he or she think you rent a room for sex purpose, they will ask for paper to prove your married. If they know you go with your wife, they don't bother you at all.

In some hotels, especially 3 to 5 stars you have to prove if your gf is Vietnamese. Lower rate hotels are fine, especially hotels around Ben Thanh market, however, they will require your gf to leave her ID at the hotel reception if she stays there with you. In my website www.bookritenow.com, there are 1 or 2 star hotels that you may want to book.

Dont stay at Riverside hotel in Saigon (HCMC) because they will ask you to prove that your married

If your partner is not a vietnamese,no issue..If she is, you have a problem unless you are legally married with a copy of your certificate on hand to prove it. The law condone prostitution, hence this regulation. However, for smaller hotel 2-4 stars, you may be able to get away by paying for extra room charge/or a token amount of money. Even so, there's no guarantee that police will not raid the hotel. Just few weeks agao, the police raid some hotels in Thich Sach Street in Ho Chi Minh City without warning even though these hotels allow the above arrangenement. When caught, the girl will be arrested ( may be released with some money paid, though not guaranteed ), while the foreigner may be photographed ( not sure as different situation has different end result ).. Well, to be safe, have your firend stay in your room for the whole day till 10pm night time cause police don't raid during daytime..Good luck and play safe..

Yes this is true but usually only the high 3*-5* Hotels enforce this rule. If you are staying in some of the smaller hotels they will look the other way. The reason for this originally was to curb the prostitution rate in Vietnam.
Also if the smaller hotels say no all they are trying to do is get some more money out of you.

Legend. i've been to veitnam, and my mom, me, my sister, and my mom's friend went to a hotel and we were able to get a room without proving anything..
