I had six years living in Ho Chi Minh city but I don't have many experiences about traveling there.
I think this website can help you. http://wikitravel.org/en/Ho_Chi_Minh_City
Remember, you can't miss Ben Thanh market and Dam Sen park (or Suoi Tien park, but it's a little far from the center of the city).
But I've got to tell you that because you're a foreigner so I'm pretty sure when you go shopping, some sellers will over-price about 2 or 3 times. And watch out carefully for your stuff and your money.
Good luck! Hope you the wonderful days in Sai Gon!

To SimsNerd : Mr. Ho rest in peace in Hanoi (the capital). It's about 2000 km far from Saigon.

hello
i was in ho chi minh last year and the highlight was definately cu chi tunnels great day out if you like history and vietnamese tour guides who speak good english on the way on the mini bus you stop for half hour to meet the people and town that were affected by agent orange and when you get there you can even fire a ak47 gun for only 15 dong for a magazine of 20 bullets so loud but they give you ear muffs the whole day is from 8 till 4 and usually drop you and pick u up from your hotel. highly recommended and cheap day too !

*-remember to bargain with the sellers.
*-watch out for your money and belongings
*-learn some vietnamese, buy an english-vietnamese dictionary

hope you have a good time.

Must see the Ho Chi Minh place where Mr. Ho Chi Minh rest in peace in. And the statue of him with marble grounds. It's really beautiful at night time. My family and my bestfriend's family went there at 3:00 am at night time and we went skateboarding on the marble ground. It was beautiful and really fun. It was cool, but when we started skateboarding and running around we got tired so we got our shirts off..LOL. IT WAS A BLAST.
