Should the Vietnamese AO DAI be worn on a daily basis?

It is a really BAD IDEA to wear such kind of clothings every day in office or at school. For formal ceremonies, ok.

The reality is that the vast majority of Vietnamese take motorbike to work, it is SO DANGEROUS to wear it and ride on the motorbike. I've seen a lot of accidents caused by wearing this Ao Dai when conducting the motorbike/bike.

What is your opinion?

@Boo: It's surprising that it still fit you well for 13years. Are you the same size from 7 till 20 years old? lol.

I agree because the long flap in the back can get stuck in the wheels and yeah... bad idea. Saying it's dangerous is not offensive, but rather the truth.

Ao dais, if we're talking about ppl living in Vietnam, are not normally worn on a daily basis. If you work at the airport or is a high school student or at some other formal jobs like working at the bank or such, then ao dais are required to be worn on a daily basis. However, when people go about their business everyday, it's highly inconvenient to wear such formal attire mostly due to the environment. Vietnam's streets and roads are quite dusty and most don't ride in cars but bikes, mopheds ( i think i totally spelled that wrong), or motorbikes or w/e, so the clothes will get dirty fast. ALso, the weather's always hot, i woudln't wannt wear something so covered up.

In the U.S., no vietnamese ever wears it unless like my mom wears it for religious practice or when there is a tet show going on during the New Year holiday. I own two Ao Dais, a white one and an orange-colored design one. I've worn the white one probably twice or three times since i came here when i was 7 and now i'm 20 and it was for religious practices as well.

Definitely not. Even if I drove a car, I wouldn't choose to wear Ao dai everyday. It's very uncomfortable :|. But like you said, it's ok to wear Ao dai at special occasions.

it is a part of our culture, dont just wonder or keep thinking , every school or office requires their employees to wear it because they have reason, it depends on their company culture and their industry such as tourism, or bank

Ao Dai is tradition and I think itÂŽs good to wear it every day if it fits your job.
Accidents caused by this?
I never saw one - the ladies and girls know very well how to handle it on the motorbike and the bike.
And it looks beautiful!

Tuáș„n-VPY
I think so. Áo dài looks pretty but it's rather be worn during ceremonies than daily life. Most women find it very uncomfortable and it makes them less active in their walk and run.

Rosemary B
yups they should be warn or else an accident would happen

raffy_east
It is a great dress and it brings good luck. It is Veit Nams national costium for woman.

Remember, when you have something like tranditonal , you will have your own way to do it for perfect

With us :when we wear Ad Dai we have thoughtful when sitting or walking, event drive motorbike. If all the Vietnamese women will accident when wear AoDai so all of them die?
