Teaching in Vietnam?

im only 16 and my mum is looking at going to Vietnam for a small holiday during the year.

while she was researching online, she has found some other aussies who have done most of Vietnam and they said on their blog that Vietnam is in desprate need for english teaches and for $20US per hour (or day...I forget) you can teach english and you dont need to know any Vietnamese.

is that true??

if half of it is true, I may be interested in the future. If so, would it be better to teach in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh) or Hanoi??

In order to work at a reputable school you need to have lots of experience, or at a minimum the CELTA or equivalent certificate. In Ha Noi you start at US$16 per hour, 100 contact hours per month (100 hours teaching, prep time is not paid). There are other alternatives - the above is current info as of about 2 months ago.

Lots of English teaching opportunities worldwide. I would suggest you get a TESOL certificate so in a way it is easier to better prepare and find teaching jobs abroad. http://www.tesol.org/s_tesol/index.asp

I would think you would need to know Vietnamese to teach English because how are you going to communicate with the students. And please do not just do it because it pays $20 per house. I know that there are lots of schools in Vietnam teaching English. I think this would be a scam.

Vietnamese want to study English with the teachers who have degree or some qualification. You can speak English, it doesn't mean you can teach English. You need to get the degree or some credits in teaching English first if you want to make more money.

ThuhaH
Get some qualifications first. Do not expect just to walk in a classroom and teach. You cannot do it.
