Tourist attractions near Hai Phong and Ha Noi? |
I'm planning to go to Vietnam next year. What tourist attractions do you recommend that are in/near Hai Phong and Ha Noi?
I know of Ha Long bay already...any others?

Hai Phong has a good beach (I say good because it's not the best beach in Vietnam). Near Hanoi, you can go to Ninh Binh (Hoa Lu - Tam Coc) and Sapa.
Tam Coc means three caves, also called Halong-Bay-On-Land:

Sapa is a picturesque village that lies on the Hoang Lien Son mountain range near the Chinese border in NW Vietnam. You can see many hill tribe people, their villages, rice terraces, lush vegetation, and Fansipan, highest peak in Vietnam...

There are several tourist attractions near Hanoi such as: Hoa Lu - Tam Coc - Bich Dong ( 1 day tour from Hanoi), Huong Pagoda (1 day tour from Hanoi), Cuc Phuong National Park ( 02 or 03 day tour from Hanoi), there are some other daily tours visiting handicraft villages near Hanoi such as Bat Trang Ceramic Village, Dong Ho Painting Village, Van Phuc Silk Village (You can combine these villages in one day tour), another one day tour option from Hanoi, if you are interested in visiting old pagoda But Thap Pagoda is a good choice. If you like visiting a nice mountainous area, and having adventure tours, Sapa would be your satisfaction (it takes 2 days/3 nights or 3days/4nights from Hanoi), Mai Chau valley is good to visit (2 days from Hanoi).
There are some tourist attractions near Hai Phong such as Halong bay but you knew it so you can try Cat Ba Island (belong to Hai Phong), you can also visit some old temples in Hai Phong city such as Hang Pho temple,..
It's up to your time limitation and your interests so you should get details about such tourist attractions.

I think that Cat Ba Island is worth seeing. you can go there from Hai Phong by high speed boat. Besides, from Hai Phong you can go to Ninh Binh where there are many beautiful landscapes such as: Phat Diem Cathedral, Tam Coc - Bich Dong - Hoa Lu.....
If from Hanoi, you can make some excursions to visit the countryside such as: Boat trip cruise in the Red River or some eco tours to national park such as: Cuc Phuong park, Tam Dao Park, Ba Vi Park,or even Ba Be park
