this is really a question for "mohave dan" but he hasnt been answereing for a while ??,,so i'll give it a shot; to my best knowledge after ww2 ho chi minh went to geneva [or wherever it was that the allies sat and "carved up" the world.] he asked for vn to be independent, free from french colonization[enslavement], but the west[ usa] would not give ho chi minh a "voice" so he turned to the communist chineses and russia for help.. initially ho wanted a "jeffersoinian democracy"... but we were buddyies w/ the french and we gave france the ok to go back to enslaving viet nam...and the communists from the north gave him weapons... well we all know how that turned out ....

Ho Chi Minh traveled much of the world during his early adult years. He even lived in New York City for a short time. He settled down in France long enough to study communism and help found the French communist party. After France, Ho Chi Minh traveled to the Soviet Union and China to further his communist studies. Ho Chi Minh had studied communism for over 20 years by the time he returned to Vietnam and created the Viet Minh resistance movement against the Japanese in 1941.
