ask any cabbi , xich lo driver, guide, or "man on the street" they will say "trung nguyen"...... when i make it at home i use an italian expresso pot make it strong and pour it over a genreous portion of codenced milk or ice cream.....mmmmm, yes i had 1 guide tell me "cafe chon" and he explainded how the civit cats[ EXTREAMLY ugly creatures] will eat and pass only the best coffe beans to be gathered and sold for a high price... i've never seen it for sale and i know a family that grows coffee in the highlands.. they told me [ along w/ others it is just not available anywhere...yeah if i could get it , i'd try it.... |

Not really a brand, more of a speciality. If you are going to explore the wonders of Vietnam coffee you need to seek out the Ca phe con chon or in English popularly known as weasel s h i t coffee. Don't be put off.
In the central highlands, the main coffee growing area, civets are known for prowling the coffee plantations and plucking off the plumpest and ripest coffee "berries" or beans with husks. The undigested coffee beans are excreted in chains of jelly like substance. Once collected, washed and roasted there is nothing to beat this.
However, beware of the fakes! yes, fake weasel s h i t coffee that has never seen the insides of a civet's guts.

The most 'popular' brand of coffee in Vietnam at the moment would be Vicofa.
For dark, black coffee:
They have a little metal 'strainer', put on top of a glass, put the coffee inside along with hot water, and wait until the good coffee is drained out into the cup.
For milk coffee:
Add the desired amount of 'sweetened condensed milk' into a cup first and follow the same steps as black coffee.
