Viet Nam Hot Pot?

When I was in Vietnam, I noticed most Vietnamese ordered hot pot soups when the temperature was in the 80s and 90s. Is it a trend to eat hot pot in Vietnam?

My wife, who is Vietnamese, has hot soup most every morning for breakfast. They just enjoy the taste of it and are used to eating hot during hot weather, which is most of the time in Vietnam. cheers.

Vietnamese enjoy hot pot soup often as they want to enjoy fresh taste of it. Cool dishes are not appreciated as they might think food is not just cooked or leftover. Hot dishes express respect to welcome guests. It's culture.

It is a popular dish, and I can tell you I live in a hot place with a large Vietnamese population. Go in any restaurant (Vietnamese) and people are ordering all of these huge bowls of soup.

I think eating the hot soup makes you feel cooler (maybe it cools you off by making you sweat?).

If they can afford yes. It derives from China. It's called Huo Guo - literally hot pot. Or to Cantonese: Loh. --> Lau

You can see this everywhere.

I think Trafest hit the nail on the head. My wife and children live in Vietnam and eat Pho every day. I'm sorry, but when it's 100 degrees and 90 % humidity, I can't eat any soup except vichyssoise. My wife and all my friends think it is disgusting that I would eat cold soup. lol Another great delicacy that I enjoy is shrimp cocktail. I'll steam up about a kilo of live mega-shrimp and set them in ice for about two hours and make my own hot cocktail sauce. The first time my wife tried it she spit it on the floor lol. My friend's will sometimes ask for a bite and the look on their face is priceless. They want to spit it out but they don't want to insult me. lol It's just a cultural thing, like never eating rare beef or frying a paper thin porkchop until it resembles shoe leather. I guess it's an acquired taste.

yes that is a popular dish in VN, It appears in every party.

When my bowl of pho comes and if it's too hot, I put a few ice cubes in to cool it down a bit (of course only after the broth cooks the raw meat first). Some people raise eye brows, some rolling their eyes, some appearing shocked. Hey! Taste, like beauty, is in the tongue of the beholder.
