Vietnam Weather, What to pack for! Jan 27 - Feb 20? |
I will be traveling throughout Vietnam and Laos starting the 27th of Jan for about a month. I need to pack but not sure what the weather is like. there is snow and ice on the ground where i live so I am sure it is warmer than that but... shorts? jeans? t-shirts? sweaters? i need to pack light so......

Hi there, I am in Vietnam as we speak till the 10 Feb before heading off to Singapore, the weathers been around the mid 20's.
Its still fairly hot but at least not as humid as previous times I have been here. All I have is shorts, polos, short sleevs shirts and 2 pairs jeans. Prices are fantastic to pick anything additional you need.
As for Laos, pretty much the same, but the prices for goods is absorbant as most stuff bought are by tourist.

Generally in the 70's during this time. Which is cold for Vietnam. Remember that Vietnam is as long as california and the weather varies from north to south. Mountain areas like Sapa are very chilly. Phu Quoc in the south is still sunny and 80 plus every day.
Also... and this is a good tip. Pack really light.
You can get any type of clothing that you want in Vietnam for really cheap. Bring some good Gortex rain gear. Underwear, pants and shorts. and ad lib the rest as you go along.
Right now in Hoi An its wet and cold. but you can buy a whole wardrobe here for $200 bucks.

It's cooler this month in Vietnam compare to others, but it's still hot for you. It depends on how often you'd do your laundry to decide how much clothes you should bring. Generally, 2 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of lightweight pants, 1 pair of shorts (it's hot but very sunny, so you don't want to be sunburnt by wearing shorts), about 4 shortsleeve shirts (cotton or rayon recommended due to the weather), 1 denim jacket (this will work better than any kind of sunblock), and if you want, you can bring 1 sweater, medium weight, but I dont think you'd need it.
About shoes, lightweight hiking boots or some kinds that go well with jeans and slacks recommended but have to breath.
Accessories: baseball caps, baby powder to prevent rashes, lightweight sandals to wear around your hotel room, a pocket knife to cut fruits,...
Sunglasses and clear glasses to wear at night if you go to Sai Gon (HCM city) due to its polution. Also, bring Visine drops or you can buy one in Vietnam
Mosquitos cream to bring if you go to Laos or to any countryside areas.
