how many cigarettes are you allowed to bring in to vietnam ? what will happen if you bring more than you are allowed ?
Your allowance when entering Vietnam is 200. I took 1000 in last month and had them confiscated. xxx

A carton of cigs is pretty much the international norm but here is the viet. allowance.
Customs allowance
Tobacco: 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g tobacco
Liquor: 1.5 litres of alcoholic beverages or 3 litres of beer
Arrival Immigration and customs declaration forms, which are usually handed out on the plane before landing, must be completed on arrival. The white and yellow duplicate customs form requires visitors to declare quantities and makes of cameras, video and camcorders, tape recorders and all other electronic equipment being taken into Vietnam. Foreign currency exceeding USD5,000 must also be declared. The customs form must be kept.
The white immigration card is stamped on arrival and must also be kept with your passport. Hotels, guest houses and private hosts are required to register your presence with the local police, and this card is essential for that purpose.

The other posters are correct. However, f you are not Vietnamese, there is a very low probability that you will be asked to submit to an inspection. I regularly bring in a gallon or two of good liquor. You should know that Viet cigs are extremely cheap. Usually about 10 dollars a carton and include brands such as Marlboro, 555 and other premium brands. If I do happen to bring cigs into the country, I give them away to friends and tell them what they cost in America. They are amazed at the cost.

You can taked 10 packs of cigerettes into Vietnam. Not sure why you would take any, as you can buy cigerettes there for around 70cents a pack. I would bring those back home. Cheers C
