I find it really strange that the US whats relations with Vietnam....wasn't I fighting to make the country free?
We were there because we were told that we were fighting Communism. Now it's ok?

Here's why.
Vietnam is the in place to visit right now. If you start in Hanoi make sure to take the night train to Sapa and stay at the Mountain view. It could be the highlight of your trip. Take the 2 day tour to Halong Bay. Very nice. Then start south bound. I firmly believe that Hoian is the best place to visit in Vietnam. The ancient town is a World Heritage city and absolutely beautiful. The beach is white sand and 40 kilometers long. Vietnam is really inexpensive. Hotels around $10 a night. You can find beer at less than 15 cents a glass. The people are wonderful. Pass on Nha Trang unless you like multi story buildings on the beach. Dalat is great and Saigon is always and experience. Phu Quoc was disappointing to me. They just don't have a clue as far as conservation and the beach's and harbors were filthy. The infrastructure is just not there yet but you can see that the island will be something special in the future. Its not special now. The Mekong is great with lots of things to see but you can do it in a couple of days. I went around the world to many different countries. On the road for over a year. I like Vietnam the best. In short, Vietnam is great. Get your head out of the past and have some fun. Get over it.

Goin' back to North Korea? You say so because you HAVEN'T BEEN to Vietnam, man. What a pity! Why not come to Vietnam and find out what are ACTUALLY attracting people around the world?

Thanks in advance

lol, kid, VIETNAM is [NOT] a communist country anymore!!! lol North Korea is, and it's different from Vietnam. Do you still see North Vietnam and South Vietnam in the maps? Or does it only say Vietnam? Have you been there before? Have you seen how beautiful it is? Learn the difference between communist and capital. Don't people learn stuffs like this in school? West Civ, Gov???

go back? when did u go back?, 10 years ago? or just last month? and what do u mean when u compare Vn with north Korea ? About what? I think y re lack of knowledge about VN. Find out bout it

MojaveDan
Vietnam today is nothing like North Korea, and making such a comparison demonstrates the lack of knowledge of Vietnam today.

I was born in the U.S. and I've been to Vietnam several times. My new wife and lots of my family are there, and that's plenty of reason for me to visit and even consider moving there one day. I don't need that much reason, because I think Vietnam is a beautiful country with incredibly nice people and great opportunities for those who are willing to take the risk.

What most negative things that Westerners believe about Vietnam is caused by misinformation from the media and history books combined with ignorance. Communism in Vietnam is nothing like it was 20 years ago, and certainly not like North Korea is today.

Vietnam has a market economy, just like the U.S., because their central controlled economy failed over 20 years ago. Their market economy has made Vietnam the second fastest growing economy in the world for the past two years. Vietnam is now a part of the WTO and will soon have favorite trade status with the U.S.

Their government is still central controlled, but the Vietnamese are realizing more freedoms everyday. Contrary to popular belief, I can access any Web site that I want, read any news that I desire and say what I want in public with little fear of being arrested in Vietnam. Those who have been arrested for such things were intentionally breaking laws. They are drawing attention to themselves and their political statements, which are causing more harm than good in ending communism in Vietnam. Communism is self-destructing, and the Vietnamese government knows it because they are causing it on purpose. Vietnam will eventually become a democracy if left alone, and it will do so without a single shot being fired.

The War ended over 30 years ago, and Vietnam is now our friend. I am an American, Viet Kieu and Con Lai, yet I feel safer walking the streets of Hanoi or Saigon than I do in some of the streets in the U.S. Furthermore, Vietnam is one of the safest and cheapest places for Americans to travel.

You and others have your right to your negative opinions about Vietnam. Before you completely close your mind, you should consider why so many Americans have visited Vietnam lately. This includes: Former President Clinton, Bill Gates, a whole bunch of representatives from Intel, Motorola, Oracle and Microsoft, Former South Vietnamese President Nguyen Cao Ky and thousands of Viet Kieu who used to live in Vietnam before the fall of Saigon. My Dad and other Vietnam Veterans served bravely during the War, and many continue to suffer to this day from their experiences there. I have met and befriended numerous Vietnam Veterans who live in Vietnam now. Many had lived there for years.

Like you and others, I had negative thoughts about Vietnam for a very long time. I have heard many stories from my Dad, family and friends who were there during and after the Vietnam War that gave me enough reason to never visit that country again. I am glad that I changed my mind, and I do not regret doing so. I hope that one day you will reconsider your own thoughts.

Hope
Stupid maybe. I think it is the politic thing again.
