Here's the website for the Vietnamese Embassy in the US, you don't need to pay a travel agent to get your visa, you can do it all by mail or in person if you live near the embassy or consulate. According to the website, it takes 5-7 days for processing plus mailing time, or 2-3 days for an expedited visa plus mailing time. I've received two visas for Vietnam in Bangkok and received the expedited visa one day after I applied:

The answer to this depends on where your submitting your request for a visa. Some go to the Post Office, which can take 6 months to a year. Now they're are place where you can get it a lot faster but you would have to be a military servicemember or a dependant of one, in which case you would be able to get it in less than a month.

There are two types of visa you can choose from. If you are traveling with at least 3 weeks notice, your travel agent can have a visa done for you by the time you board your plane. But if you are traveling short notice, you can get a landing visa. This means that the airport officials in VN will be notified and when you arrive with all the necessary paperworks (your travel agent will help you) they will hand over your visa upon arrival. 2-4 weeks....u dont' realy need to get a visa in the state...just go back to VN n make one.....cost only $40-50...
