Yes. I have been there, more than once and just love it. Not just Saigon but the whole country. So safe, friendly, beautiful and peaceful! Will be back again in less than a year.
By the way, you must've been there before 1975. That's when Saigon was the capital of the old South Vietnam and had embassies there. Hanoi is the capital of the whole country now and so the embassies are all in Hanoi, of course. Many countries maintain consulates in Saigon at the present and the city is called Ho Chi Minh City, as you know.
By the way, as another answer has pointed out, it was Cong Ly St. and not Cong Lee. Actually it has been renamed since 1975. It's now called Nam Ky Khoi Nghia (Southern Uprising) in commemoration of a revolutionary movement against the French in the 20th century.
The old Cong Ly St. (Cong Ly means Justice) was so named because there were many courts located thereon and also the Ministry of Justice.
Go back for a visit and take your family with you. The city was beautiful when you were there but I'll bet it's much more beautiful now, with so many new, modern buildings and not packed with the poor refugees from the countryside as during the war years (1964-1975). |
