There is nothing beautiful about Ben Thanh market - maybe sentimental to Viet Kieu, but otherwise I fail to see anything beautiful about it. It is just a big yellow building with a clock.

Ben Thanh is not beautiful, but it is fun. If you can get a Vietnamese person to go with you, they can help you get really low prices. If you are foreign, they will charge much more, so if they say they can't possibly lower the price for you, don't believe it.
The most beautiful places I visited were the pagodas. Get a guide book and look up the most famous of them to visit.

Not sure about the most beautiful, but Ben Thanh market is the most interesting. It's a real experience walking the crowded interior of the market with all the hawkers pulling at you as they try to get you to buy. Then there are all the little shops located around the market and the night market outside along with the outdoor eating spots that spring up at night.
While Notre Dame Cathedral is just a church and don't belive its even open to the public. Though it is a nice building as is the Post Office across the street or shopping at Diamond Plazza up the street. Doug @ http://vietnam-now.com
