What are some jobs foreigners can do in Vietnam besides teaching? |
I am looking for a job that is semi-lucrative. I have over 4 years teaching experience in Asia (Math and English). I would like to learn something new.
Perhaps exporting furniture or work with an NGO/Non-profit?
Some suggestions would be appreciated, thanks. |

The best bet would be to come here...as a teacher.
Once you establish yourself, use your connections and network yourself into something different.
To work at an NGO, you have to have a proven skill that they are looking for at the moment.
If you don't have a proven track record OR a solid network, you're not gonna get anywhere fast.
I came to Vietnam in 1992 to do one thing and changed careers two years later when the opportunity presented itself.
Forget exporting furniture, there are a million people doing it already and they have the inside track and connections. |

Ikea is exporting furniture, as are others.
If you want to work with an NGO, you have to have a skill that they need, and a skill that can not be filled by a Vietnamese who has the skills, first class training, speaks the local language, and knows the culture. An NGO is unlikely to hire you in order to to teach you something new. Many INGOs are phasing out their foreign staff - several have been locally staffed for a long time, and others are joining the ranks.
If you had a good business idea, or a skill that a foreign-owned enterprise would be willing to pay for, you would be closer to your goal. If you have the funds and ideas, you might be able to start a joint-venture.
The senior management of international organizations are often expat. The head chefs, managers, other such folks are often brought in from the outside.

Besides teaching, i think that working for some tourism companies is getting one of the hottest job now. If you don't want, you can apply to work at some non government ruled organizations, manufacturing companies....In brief, there are many chances for you to find out a job in Vietnam. |

Come on dude, "how can I make a bunch of money doing something new?". If you have to ask it's not going to happen. |
