Almost all fruits and vegetables are banned, most canned meat products are also severely restricted, depending on their country of origin. I wasn't even allowed to bring some beef jerky into the U.S.from Asia, even though it was made in the U.S., and the customs people confiscated it after I declared it (maybe they just wanted it so they could eat it). It's probably best to not bring any food into the U.S., candy and a few other items are ok, not much else.

I've brought back lots of stuff that I was sure would be questioned, but I never received a second glance during inspection. I've brought back tea, dried fruits, dried fish and other foods without a problem. However, I will never consider bringing back fresh fruits or other unprocessed foods.

You can call and ask the U.S. Consulate in Saigon or the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi. They can be very helpful if you ask the right questions, and will tell you exactly what you can or cannot bring back to the U.S.

Who wants to know

The official USDA list of allowable foods and plant products from most countries is subject to change. Best thing to do is getting a list from Customs Department what allowed to bring to the US.

I was able to bring wine and can food when I came back from France.

Generally they are prohibited due to possible parasites and fruit fly larva. Packaged goods, canned goods are okay. But forget fresh vegetables, flowers, meats, etc.

If you buy processed food, coffee, tea and items like that you wont have a problem. I tried to bring in a banana plant and they had a fit at custom at San Francisco. Thought they were going to put me me the slammer. Have a good time and bring back lots of goodies, I will. Will be back in Vn in 12 days, ya. cheers.

Canned goods are ok....nothing that is "fresh". The US doesn't allow fruits and veggies from alot of places. Besides, they don't travel well on airplanes for 24 hours.....
The usual clothing, crafts, etc. are fine. Check out the US Customs website.

Too many to list. The best is you should double check both side, US and VN, to see what can come out of VN and what can come in US.
I'm pretty sure that fresh stuffs can't go thru. but canned food or dry food should be ok.
