1. Have defeated all past and present powers in wars: U.S., French, Chinese, Mongols, and Japanese.

2. Food: Pho, spring rolls, and coffee.

3. Hanoi Tower: Game or riddle.

4. Ha Long Bay: Consider the most beautiful place on earth. World UNESCO Heritage site.

5. Lead the world in exports of peppers, cashew nuts, and second in exports of coffee, rice, and fruits.

6. Dominate the world in a sport call shuttlecock.

The most wonderful thing is the forgiveness. After the wars with the US, France, Japan, China ... Vietnamese people never keep in mind the past to hate them, but always want to be friend with any country in the world. People love peace, are friendly and take care of the others. Even McCain's life was saved by a communist doctor in Vietnam war, too ^_^

The income here is still low, but you can never see it in the people's faces. They keep smiling all the time and striving their best for a better future. Last year, Vietnam was the second fastest growing economy in the world. Vietnamese people always live for the future, not the past.

Vietnamese history is long (about 4000 years by stories, 3000 years with evidences) and have many unique culture, plus imported culture from China, France ... In 2010, Hanoi is going to celebrate 1000 years of being the capital of Vietnam.

Vietnamese foods are good. PHO (Vietnamese traditional noodle) is the most famous, almost can be found in the restaurants in any country in the world (just like sushi of Japan). Vietnamese foods are rated very healthy, too.

Vietnam have many tourist attractions, "safe and friendly", things are cheap to buy.

Vietnamese people are educated, work hard. Many students get high rankings in the world competitions in Maths, Physics ... Microcomputer was invented by Andre Truong (like someone said above).

Many, many stories to talk about ...

nobody "won" the vietnam war. they went to "stop communism", just like the us went to iraq to "fight insurgents".

Vietnam was a former French colony. Many migrants carry some of these skills with them e.g bakery. The war has exacted a heavy toll on its former citizens hence the high number of drug traffickers. It also has some positive effects. People who have to strive are hard working and extend their talents e.g in finance and computers. Like all people in the world Vietnamese have both strong and weak points. These qualities just get "exagerated" due to colonisation and wars resulting in migration. Migrants have strong ties and roots. These ties are evident in the adopted land with both positive and very negative outcomes.

The Vietnam War is big one.
You can trace it back to Vietnam gaining independence from France, Dien Bien Phu was a significant part of that war.
Then the more recent would be Vietnam War with the U.S. The U.S. was fighting against the North (Viet Cong) communists led by Ho Chi Minh and supporting the South, I forgot who the president of the south was, I think it was Ngo Dinh Diem? And all the while that war is going on, there is this own little war in the south of catholics and the buddhists, since Diem was a catholic.

Uhm, Pho :) and Spring rolls. hehe

Refugees that are residing in all these different countries all over the world. Australia, US, Philippines, UK...etc.

Vietnam was once known for it's exports, sugar cane..coffee...
