Vietnam is a beautiful country. Friendly people, progressive, clean ,fabulous food, plenty of interesting things to see and do. I highly recommend it as a place to visit. Oh..............and very safe.
They are working on several building projects trying to restore many beautiful historic sites after being bombed in the Vietnam war. The Citadel in Hue is an example.
Have a look at http://www.fascinating-travel-destinations/travel-to-vietnam.html for information and pictures of Vietnam today. As in..........three months ago. |

If you want a bit more about Vietnam, check out this site. I used it when I was doing my research paper.

Vietnam is in bad shape because their are mines, booby traps, and chemicals left over and are causing widespread sorrow and despair |

Only idiot like Vandyman would say such a thing. I feel sad because of narrow minded and idiot foreigners like Vandyman because there are so much people like him. No wonder why we are suffering from a global economic crisis that we are in. Anyway, Vietnam has transformed from a poor country to a country that grows at an astounding rate. In fact, the country economic growth is second in the world for many years. Wherever you go in big cities, you will see construction sites everywhere. In all, the people are much well off then couple of decades ago. Vietnam at the moment is considered one of the next 11 emerging economies. Most importantly, you won't see any traces of past wars if you travel to VN. The only sites that you will see are beautiful sceneries, friendly and adorable people. |

I am an American who has been in Vietnam for 12 months. Vietnam is very modern, in some respects. People who live and sleep on the floor of their restaurants, their whole family sleeping in one room have nicer mobile phones than we do in the USA. As you walk along the streets of HCMC, a city of 7 million people, you walk past cyclo drivers who live in their cyclos and roosters and chickens walking around freely.
In the countryside the people are very poor and live the same way they did hundreds of years ago. There are modern 20 story apartment buildings in hcmc, not 5 minutes drive from shanty towns where factory workers live.
I have been here for 12 months, and I have to say, I don't think Vietnam can be described. It has one of the widest gaps of income in the world. Yes, in the big cities it is very modern like Lotus said, but many people are very poor. Cripples come to you several times during a cup of coffee begging for money and selling lottery tickets while BMW's and Lexus's drive past bullying motorbikes and pedestrians out of their way.
Vietnam must be experienced but it can really, truly, never be understood. |
