Almost everything is best to buy at Vietnam! They have designer clothes for great prices, designer purses, books, souvenirs, decorations, food,jewelry, gifts,office and school supplies, book bags, etc.
What not to buy in Vietnam is:
-Cell phones (really expensive)
-Cameras
-Computers
And anything else that are electronics.
In my opinion, going to Vietnam is the best thing ever!
I recently went during June and it was one of the greatest time of my life.
If you do buy something, always try to bargain. Don't ever say you're from America or the price will go up.
take plenty of pictures and buy lots of gift becuase it is really cheap and you can give it to people :]

It's true that you shouldn't buy laptops, cellphones ... in Vietnam because they are not cheap compare to the other countries (can be the same or more expensive). But with cameras, you can find brand new cameras with 1/2 price. The reason is the shop owners brought them on travelling from the other countries (Japan for example), and they didn't pay the import taxes. For this reason, the warranty for the cameras will still be 1 year but by the shop (not by the manufacturer) but I don't think the cameras will have problems. I and my friends bought some cameras from a shop near Hoan Kiem lake in Hanoi and we used them for 3 years without any problem, the quality is the same. Of course, in the super markets in Vietnam, where you can find the cameras with manufacturer warranty, the price will be the same like everywhere in the world.
For the other things you listed, I agree that clothes, shoes ... are cheap in Vietnam and the quality are good. The US and EU are the biggest exporting markets for those stuffs from Vietnam. |

If you are Vietnamese and love to sing Karaoke, the best buy is Arirang DVD Karaoke player..You can not find it anywhere else in the USA, if you do, it will be in San Francisco for a hefty price..This will make a great gift too.
Other thing that i can think of is Moto Bike..Like Honda and Yamaha or Atila..I believed we do not have it here in the US of that brand name.
