Air ASIA. $US50 to $US100. (BKK - SGN) or (BKK - HAN)
Vietnam airlines the same price but more options into Vietnam. Like Danang and i think Pleiku. But you can't get the tickets online from Vietnam airlines (...yet)
Online for air Asia. Gotta call Vietnam airlines in BKK for their one.
Got your Visa? $US70 - $US90

Overland through Cambodia will cost very little. Remember if you fly you'll need to pay departure tax on top of flights. It only costs a few dollars from the Thai border to Battambang then the same to Phnom Penh on a pick up. You can get buses to Ho Chi Minh City for next to nothing from Phnom Penh, and you get to see Cambo en route. You could go via Siem Reap instead of Battambang and see the temples though it's likely to cost a bit more as this is now the tourist route.

quikia of Kuala Lumpur
Bangkok to Siamreap by bus = USD20 = 12 to 18 hours
Siamreap to Phnom Penh = USD 5 = 6 hours
Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City = USD 12 = 6 hours
Enjoy!

Book online at http://www.airasia.com. One way can be as cheap as 40USD.
Air Asia only flies to Hanoi from Bangkok.

Otherwise it would overland as explained earlier. But the 1 1/2hr flight sounds much better!

Have fun!
