Why speaking of war when referring about Vietnamese people? I think the weirdest thing is not only the way they won against the invaders, but also the way they tolerate the past and build up relations with them.

Culturally there are some aspects that other people cannot understand. My uncle told me that when he had just come to the US, one of his friend caught a chill. He "shaved the wind" from his friend. To shave the wind, he used a coin or a spoon and scratched it on his back and neck. This make him look like being tortured, but in a short time his friend got better. In Vietnamese, we call this "cạo gió".

Weird is probably too strong of a word to use, but Viets do have somewhat different customs than in the US. My current favorite is what I call "cook the baby". That's when my wife puts a charcoal brazier under the bed that she and our newborn share. She has some Vietnamese folk remedy reason for doing this, although it doesn't seem to make much sense to me. I mean, it;s already 90 degrees in the shade!
One day, I swear that I'm going to make myself an African "witch-doctor" outfit, paint my face and dance around the house shouting gibberish. I'm going to tell her it's an American custom to scare off evil spirits. I'll let my oldest daughter in on the secret and we'll both have a good laugh.

They defeated the French in 1954 and defeated the Americans in 1973. For such a small country to knock out giants , how weird !

I was going to say about the scratching wind thing! But i would say the traditional remedys and traditions.

I don't think its the majority of the group that you are referring to as "Vietnamese", it just depends on the person themselves

The ability to forgive their enemies.

Pretty much nothing. But it does have a long history of the majority of People. There were many wars that took place in Vietnam.
