Umm, Vietnam (lol). You might have mistaken the capital names instead. Ho Chi Minh City was formerly known as Saigon.

The Socialist Republic of Vietnam, otherwise known as vietnam. Its name hasn't changed

It hasn't changed

HQTrang
It's known as Việt Nam in Vietnamese lol.
I notice someone said HCMC is Vietnam's capital. Well, the capital is Hanoi, not HCMC :).

Viet Nam is now known as "The Socialist Republic of Viet Nam" with the "e" of Viet having an accent mark that looks like a small hat.
Before the country was re-unified, the communist north was known as "The Democratic Republic of Viet Nam" (DRVN) and the south was known as "The Republic of Viet Nam" (RVN). The rebel guerrillas in the south were known as "The National Liberation Front of South Viet Nam" (Viet Cong).

It is and always will be known as Vietnam , the pronunciation is just slightly different to what us Brits use. "HQ trang" is correct when he says Hanoi is the capital and personally Ho Chi Minh will always be Saigon to me . And "Lonelyhe ..." that episode of Top Gear was amazing i live in the US now and have just seen it "Clarkson" and company were truly hilarious.
