What kind of clothes can you get in Vietnam? |
This Spring, my family and I are going to Vietnam. My mom says that we're going to do a LOT of shopping, so I want to get as much stuff as I can there that I can't possibly get in the US. I was curious, what kind of clothes do they have in Vietnam that seem special or are unique?
I'm a big fan of lolita styled clothes, do they have anything like that? Could someone possibly give me some pictures of some of the clothes you can get in Vietnam?
Thanks in advance~ Additional Details I searched the Ao Dai you two had mentioned, and it looks cool, but it isn't really my style. What else is there? |

I'm not sure you're Vietnamese or others. If traditional Vietnamese clothing is not for you, I'm sure there are others hip clothes that you can buy. However, if you buy other types of clothing, you can get them anywhere, you don't have to get them in Vietnam.
Ão dà i is only flattered for people who are thin because it's a form fitted dress. Lots of people in the US or oversea are still wearing them on their wedding's day. It's beautiful because of the material. Also Miss Vietnam USA is also judged as one of their fashion besides swim suit.
My sisters grew up in the 60-70' in Vietnam. They did wear bell bottom, low rise jeans and clogs just like everywhere in the world at that time. The clothes you see now is actually wore by those hippies in the 60'.
If you're looking for unique clothing, Ão dà i definitely is unique because you can't find that anywhere except where Vietnamese people reside. All of them are handmade. |

well most people that i know that have recently went to vietnam (are older) I'm guessing your under twenty?? but most older people get clothes tailored made, I mean like slacks, ao dai's. as mentioned. But here's the thing, they do have some cute kinda old fashioned looking tops but most ppl wear matching pajama like clothing. Do you know what i mean? my mother wore slacks and a button up shirt and she said you felt out of sync. so my guess is that you will find alot of tops. which aren't always as good a quality as if it were from here. sorry, i feel as tho im ranting. so good luck and have fun!!!

also im curious as to what exactly lolita clothing is? can you elaborate for me? thanks either way. once again i hope you have fun, and if you dont mind my saying you should also consider bringing old clothing of yours over there either for relatives or for donating. ppl i know always appreciate when i do |

I think you're gonna have a very tough time finding lolita styled clothes in Vietnam simply because it's not fashionable and definitely not the "in thing" there. I don't know how old you are, but besides "ao dai" there're lots of shops selling foreign brand urban clothings that appeals to teens and youths for very low prices. Check them out, you'll be amazed with what you see. |

There is alot of places that will fit your needs..
1. An Dong Plaza..(go to the new one, not the old one)
shop till you drop..buffet at the top level..
2. Diamond Plaza..(behind Notre Dame Cathedral)
Pizza Huts, KFC and bowling..have fun there
3. Zen Plaza..(on the street called Nguyen Trai at District 1 )
Pho 2000...Chinese Food..Smoothie..Pizza..Sushie at the
upper level 7
4. Ben Thanh..(Most popular shopping site in Vietnam..you
gatta go there first)
5. For young fashion clothes..a street call Nguyen Trai..plenty

well its been i while since i've been to vietnam but the most noticeable thing is the national dress called an ao dai, it is a dress that is split into two with pants sort of like a really long shirt (from the name). You could also get ao dais with very detailed embroidery with is very unique. |

I think the Vietnamese Ao Dai is the most graceful and flattering clothing I have ever seen on a woman! Here is a photograph of a woman on the street wearing one: http://whatwedoissecret.org/madebyblog/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/aodai.jpg |
