There are lots of skilled Vietnamese. You have to compete against them - but you don't speak the language, you don't know the work environment, and the Vietnamese government would like as many of their nationals employed as possible.
So, what do you have to offer?
If you work for a company that has operations in Vietnam you can convince the company that you are the person they should send to manage their operations. You don't have that?
If you are part of your country's diplomatic corps / development assistance agencies you can request a posting. You don't have that?
Do you have a lot of experience in a particular trade (construction?) or professional activity? You don't have that?
You can seek work with an NGO - but they have the same interests as indicated above.
Are you a native speaker of English? Do you have any teaching certifications and credentials? Many of the quality language centers in Viet Nam require CELTA or similar certification. You can get that for about $1500.00 here.
If you have a fist full of money to invest, and you know restaurantings / resorts / other service activities, you can come and give it a shot (check with the Vietnamese embassy about investment requirements). When I first came to Ha Noi 10 years ago there were lots of expats setting up bars and restaurants, and they were growing. When I came back 4 years ago, the earlier ones appeared to have all disappeared. There are still expats running such establishments, but there is a certain "risk" in such endeavours.

If you can speak both Vietnamese and English you wont have a hard time finding a job. To many jobs there to list. Do a Google, Yahoo or Webcrawler Search. Sure you will find something of interest there. Good luck. Cheers C
