What not to bring to vietnam?

Some of these answers make me tremble with disgust from the amount of blinding stupidity.

First of all, we have ALL the popular personal hygiene products. Colgate toothpaste, Crest, Aquafresh, you name it, we have it. US products. Japanese and Korean products, European products. We have it ALL.

P&G (Proctor & Gamble) has a manufacturing base here, so does Colgate Palmolive. SHEESH!!!

Secondly, regarding the girl who said "don't bring your laptop because it might be stolen by the Vietnamese people", listen sweetheart, we have some of the hottest laptops and desktop units in the world here at a price you cannot get in the US. Why would anyone want yours?

What you shouldn't bring is simple:

1. Illegal drugs (they'll arrest you, try you and kill you. The police don't play games with that stuff. Neither does Singapore or Malaysia.)

2. Anti-revolutionary propaganda. Forget about bringing in Viet Tan pamphlets or any other "overthrow the government" or human rights stuff.

3. Weapons. (Forget it completely) Forget guns, knives, mace or stunners. You are in the SAFEST country in the WORLD when you come here. Forget terrorism, its not here.

What you SHOULD bring:

1. An open mind.
2. Your sense of curiosity and adventure.
3. Your sense of humour.

You will have a wonderful time here and will understand why I came here 17 years ago and never left.

Its technically simple.
Just hygenic items, money, visas, passports (anything to get through the airport) and probably a camera.
Don't worry about valuables; vietnam has everything it needs; it can get their own laptops that are IMPOSSIBLE in america (or wherever) So you need not. Just beware of muggers. As for what izzy said; completely agreed.

Really all you need is your passport,Visa, and money. Everything else you can get there (most of it cheaper).

Bring personal hygiene stuff like toothbrush, floss, toothpaste, shampoo, soap. Vietnam carries all those things but the quality was not up to my expectation. Perfume, cologne (if you're a guy), definitely some sunblock lotion, you don't want to be burn by the sun like me.
Bring a digital camera/camcorder to take pictures.

Go with what you stand in and a few personal hygiene items . Buy a rucksack out there and fill it with all the goodies that you will see whilst there . It may sound silly but you can buy everything so much cheaper out there that you will wish you had more space in your luggage when you come to leave . Take some items with you to give away to the locals who will help you in everything you do , enjoy yourself .

Bring : Clothes, body lotion, spray, toothbrush, toothpaste, beauty items (makeup, etc.) Bag/purse

Not to bring : Valuable items such as laptops, cameras (maybe), real rings & necklaces ; They might get stolen from people in Vietnam.
