How about the great state of Maine? It has Poland, Sweden, Mexico, Paris etc, etc. Why not Veitnam?
By the way, If you dug a hole in Maine, straight down thru the center of the Earth, you might emerge in Viet Nam. Since there is a 12 hour time difference between the two, Viet Nam is exactly half way around the world from the east coast of America.

Another scare tactic that gets people all up in arms to fight a war in a place they shouldn't be in the first place.
It is on the other side of the world from the US, but it was a place that bought weapons and ammo, which put everyone to work.
Most of that tiny country died or was murdered and starvation and disease and took over and for years it was a wasteland.

It is on the Continent of Asia south of China and close to Thailand, Burma, Indo China and Malaya
Then you ask because China is Communism and so was North Vietnam and when they decided to make South Vietnam have a communist government what was the problem. Since it was on the other side of the world from the Continent of North America, they were very poor and was still tilling the ground with oxen and sharp sticks. To them a wheel borrow was a startling invention. They had very little knowledge of politics without TV or even newspaper because most of them couldn't read or write.

Vietman was small at 128,405 Sq. Miles it is smaller than Texas at 266,807 sq miles or California 158,706 sq miles.
It lies along the coastline very much like California.
It would be as if someone divided California into Northern CA and Southern CA. Then called a war to change their way of government.
The South was rural and backwards and hardly knew what was going on. The USA said you have to fight these people.
By China supplying the North with weapons and ammo and the US supplying the south with weapons and ammo the small coastal country was all but destroyed it s population almost extinguished.
Johnston said it was to stop the threat of communism, either fight this war or learn how to speak chinese. It was called to bolster the economy. Which it did!
The only thing it cost the US was 56,000 young men.
But the ones who call war do not care because they are not the ones who fight in the wars.
