Where on the net can I learn a little basic Veitnam language in a tourist type situation?
As I am intending holidaying in Veitnam this year I think a little basic of the language would be handy
most guide books have a basic language section which can be useful for travelers. It also means you don't have to buy two of three books, just one which you can use on the road!
Otherwise you can normally pick up tapes/CD packages from your local library (free) or book store so you can hear the actual words being spoken.
The Vietnamese love it when travelers make the effort to learn their language so go for it!
Good luck and enjoy Vietnam!

Hiii,
The Best resource on the Net has to be
http://www.vietcourses.com/learn/
It is a fantastic site run by Vietnamese teachers in their own time. The site can be tricky to navigate and some areas require you to register before you can access, but these are generally for the more experienced student.
To learn basic phrases and sayings it is wonderful and the actual speech sounds are played for you so that just by repeating them you easily and speedily become quite fluent.
If you find better than this, then please let me know and I will eat my Hat :)
Enjoy

I would look for a software package on Amazon.com, That's how I learned a few key phrases that helped me out when I went to the Czech Republic.
